PostHeaderIcon Writing competition: what did bring you to football

The beginning is always interesting. When I decided to become a football supporter, it took me a while to understand how everything functioned. It’s time to gather stories about ‘the beginning’ as Effour launches its very first writing competition for female football fans. Read the rest of this entry »

PostHeaderIcon Snapshot in football #3: singing in the rain

I admire football supporter’s determination (and obviously we can speak about the sports in general here) – nothing is too hard if your team needs you. Even if it’s cold outside! Even if it’s raining like hell!  Take a hot tea and an umbrella with you, and every problem is solved! As I said – the determination of the supporter is admirable. And I love it!

This is where my new football snapshot comes from – singing in the rain (although I must admit that this snapshot has been inspired by Glee’s interpretation). What does it mean? Despite all obstacles (may it be the weather or/ and result on the scoreboard) the supporters are enthusiastic enough to sing the chants to cheer up their team.

I visited one of the games in Latvia’s top football league yesterday, and it was the first time when I had gone out just to see a football match in a bad weather (I value my comfort – yes!). I liked how people didn’t care about it. I liked the sense of obligation which made you stay in the game for 2 hours and whine, but not leave!

The determination is good, isn’t it? I wish we owned the same portion of it in the ordinary life as well! I guess, football teaches us to stop standing behind the scenes. If we’re ready to watch the game, being completely sure we’ll be sick on the next day, then our goals don’t seem so unachievable anymore!

PostHeaderIcon Football poetry returns

It’s been a while since my last football poem, so I collect my thoughts to change the statistics.

This time I want my poem to be dedicated to football itself, not specific club or country. Thus, this is what my inspiration has come up with.

Perfect

Sitting in the corner, I see the people waving

They’re smiling, blinking, shouting, and they’re sometimes singing

It’s the time of the day when we are perfect

Sitting on the line, I see myself laughing

I’m yawning, jumping, crying, and I’m sometimes sleeping

But it’s the time of the day when I am perfect

It is funny to notice how our decisions are made

It is funny to realize what football can do

Sitting on the crossbar, I see the players fighting

They’re passing, running, passing, and they’re sometimes scoring

It’s the time of the day when they are perfect

If I put football on my palm, I’ve done everything to try

To make the world my closest mate and find the best in me

90 minutes of the game begin and never terminate

Always change till the perfectness
